Q: How do I install the fonts I just purchased?
Installation Instructions

Q: The fonts I just downloaded for the Windows platform are not installing properly (e.g. the fonts are not showing up on my computer). What should I do?
All Berthold and Adobe Berthold fonts downloaded from www.bertholdtypes.com are PostScript Type 1 fonts (not True Type fonts) which require Adobe Type Manager (ATM) for installation on the Windows operating system. This requirement is mentioned in the beginning of the End User License Agreement prior to purchase. Adobe Type Manager Light is available free of charge from http://www.adobe.com/products/atmlight/download.html Alternatively, you may want to purchase Adobe Type Manager Deluxe which organizes both Type 1 and True Type fonts. It is available from www.adobe.com and various retailers and mail order outlets.

Windows 2000 (ATM is NOT REQUIRED) to install fonts:
Programs -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Fonts
Under the File menu is the option "Install new font..."
You can choose to either copy the new font into the font folder or create an alias/shortcut by unchecking the copy box.

Q: The fonts I just downloaded were delivered with a .ZIP or .SIT file extension. How do I make the font active?
All Berthold and Adobe Berthold fonts downloaded from www.bertholdtypes.com are delivered in a compressed format: .zip for PC and .sit for Mac. Before you can install the fonts, you will need to decompress the files. Aladdin Systems offers a free Expander Utility to decompress .zip files for Windows and .sit files for Macintosh. http://www.stuffit.com Back to top

Q: Although I successfully installed the fonts I just purchased, all the styles (e.g. italic, bold, bold italic) do not appear in the Font Menu in my Windows applications. What's wrong?
When a font package contains more than the four basic weights (regular, italic, bold, bold italic), only the "regular" weight will appear in the Font Menu in your applications. To select the style you want, you need to open the Style Menu in your application program and select the style you desire. For Adobe Berthold Exklusivs, you will find a read-me file with your fonts identifying the style links. Back to top

Q: What is the difference between the BQ versions and the Adobe versions of the Berthold typefaces?
The Berthold BQ and Adobe Berthold versions are derived from the same data source and so the character outlines are almost identical. The metrics (spacing and kerning) will differ considerably as the Berthold BQ versions have extended kerning for European languages (German, French, Italian etc.). Other additional benefits of the Berthold BQ versions include:
> The Berthold BQ versions sometimes offer weights and versions not available in the Adobe Berthold versions (e.g. Imago, Bodoni Old Face Expert).
> Berthold BQ versions always offer full character sets whereas some of the Adobe Expert fonts have incomplete character sets.
> Some of the most popular Berthold BQ versions include the EURO symbol. Back to top
